Samsung D900 General Tips

(Page 04)

Tip # 33 : Email (Gmail) account settings for your D900:

I got this information originally from X700 section > internet tips > Tip#02. You may refer this page also. If you have a pop3 e-mail account, you can send/receive e-mails from your phone. Hence the procedure for setting up a g-mail account is given here. Anyhow, you can set up accounts other than g-mail also, if you enable pop3/imap4 access.

WEB SETTINGS
1. Log in to your Gmail account from PC.
2. Click Settings at the top of Gmail page.
3. Click Forwarding and POP in the orange Mail Settings box.
4. On POP download section, select Enable POP for all mails.
5. ‘When messages are accessed with pop’– select ‘keep Gmail’s copy in the inbox’
6. Click Save Changes ... A message will appear that  Your preferences have been saved.

PHONE SETTINGS
Go to menu/messages/settings/e-mails/Email accounts/acount settings and select account1. Sample settings are given below for an e-mail account “abcd@gmail.com” with password “1234” (example).
·     In Use- (tick it)
·     Account name – (any name; example- abcd)
Press "Ok/I" to go to next section
·     User name – (Enter your name or any other. When you send a mail from PHONE, the receiver will get this user name in the ‘From’ column. This will not affect the sender name, when you mail from computer.)
·     Email address - abcd@gmail.com
·     Reply address - abcd@gmail.com
Press "Ok/I" to go to next section
·     SMTP server – smtp.gmail.com
·     SMTP port – 465
·     SMTP User ID – abcd
·     SMTP password – 1234
·     Secure connection (SMTP) – (tick it)
·     Retrieve server type – POP3
·     POP3 server – pop.gmail.com
·     POP3 port – 995
·     Same ID and password – (tick it)
·     APOP login – (DON’T tick)
·     Secure connection(POP3) – (tick it)
Press "Ok/I" to save settings.
Now go back to ‘current account’ and select the above account there. Again go back. In Receiving options –
·     Check interval – If you select, say, ‘ 3 hour’, your e-mails will be retrieved every 3 hour and you will be informed by a message. Select ‘not used’ if you don’t want to check mails automatically.
·     Retrieve option – normal
·     Download limit – 300kb(recommended)
·     Keep in server – (tick it)
Save and go back to e-mail profiles. Select your network from the ‘current profile’ list. If it is not included, go to ‘profile settings’ and edit any of the given settings. Only your service provider can provide the correct settings-APN, id and password. This need not be same as the WAP settings. After saving the correct settings, back to ‘current profile’ and select the saved settings there.
Now it’s all done!! Go to my messages/e-mail inbox and select ‘check new mail’. Your mails will be retrieved. Besides this, if you have selected 1hr/3hr/6hr… in receiving options of e-mail settings, e-mails will be automatically retrieved in that interval. You may go to sound settings/message tone and select a different tone for e-mail for easy identification.
To SEND e-mails, go to messages/create message/e-mail.
To set up another Gmail account, go to ‘account settings’ and from options select, ‘create’. Mails to all accounts will be retrieved automatically. When you send an e-mail, the SELECTED account in ‘e-mail account>current account’  is used.
